F-4C Phantom II

Description

Done!

Usually when I go without the internet for a few days I go through withdraws and I'm generally unpleasant to be around, but this time I took it all in stride and applied the finishing touches of this model kit of my favorite jet of all time, the F-4 Phantom II.

A Phantom of the "Candy Cane Air Force" Training Wing, The ever present, loud stripes caught my eye at the craft store where I got it. Originally I had intended to use the optional markings for a black & white striped F-4 of a Brigadier General Fred Haeffner- who's jet looked as if it stormed over the beaches of Normandy in WWII. . .In short, it looked bad ass. But my seemingly brilliant idea of painting the white and applying the stripe decals; then clear coating them so they could be masked for the camouflage was all for not as when I began to peel the masking tape it pulled up bits of clear coat and decal on some areas, totally ruining them. . .

So I stripped away the remaining bits and went with the red & whites. Looks nice- but B&W looked waaaaaay better.

Donning the iconic Vietnam SEA (South East Asia) camo pattern, I once again used Tamiya Aircraft Sprays of AS-13 Green, AS-14 Olive Green, AS-15 Tan & AS-16 Light Grey all marked for the USAF. Then weathered up with my trusty Tamiya weathering kit.

Being an old Revellogram kit, it had its share of the usual gaps and seams, piss poor fits (the exhaust nozzles are HORRIBLE) but nothing that couldn't be fixed- it still builds into a nice model if your willing to put the work into it. ;)

Wonderful build! And the stripes are great!
Really no telling, that you had to change something or that you stripped old ones - they are just done great!

I really love this one, great job!
